IF-G is a typically banded iron formation sample, chemically precipitated on the ocean floor in a volcanic environment. The principal components are quartz and magnetite. Sulfide inclusions are common.
Iron-ore deposit, Isua supracrustal belt, West Greenland
The main characteristic components are SiO2 (41 %m/m) and FeO (41 %m/m).
MgO and CaO are both present with about 2 %m/m, S has 700µg/g.
Most other trace elements including REE+Y are in the 500 ng/g to 50µg/g range.
