The concept phase of the 21st Science4Life Venture Cup has come to a successful end: 84 start-up teams have submitted their business concepts – enabling Science4Life to build on the rapidly increasing number of participants in recent years. But not only the number of submissions has increased in recent years, the quality of business concepts has also increased continuously. Start-ups from the life sciences sector are particularly strongly represented this year and were able to convince with concepts such as a digital and contactless measurement of vital data or a smart insole for Parkinson’s patients. There were also exciting innovations in the chemical and energy sectors – including a new analysis method for proteins and a network-independent rapid charging system for electric vehicles.

The main sponsors of the business plan competition are the Hessian state government and the health company Sanofi. The special Science4Life Energy Award has been awarded since 2016 and is sponsored by the Viessmann Group as the main sponsor and platinum promoter, energy supplier ENTEGA as gold promoter and the State of Hesse to promote technological innovations in the field of energy. “Start-ups and their ideas are decisive for the future of our state – regardless of whether we are talking about digital transformation or the energy revolution,” said Dr. Philipp Nimmermann, Hesse’s State Secretary for Economic Affairs: “We need people who can put their business ideas into practice. I am therefore delighted that so many and above all innovative concepts have once again been submitted this year”. Dr. Karl-Heinz Baringhaus, administrative director for research and development at Sanofi in Germany, was also enthusiastic: “The Science4Life Venture Cup has been around for over 20 years and every year there are impressive new submissions. It is important to us to support the participants with our expert network in the best possible way in realizing their business projects. After all, we all benefit from the innovative ideas.” In addition to a two-day intensive workshop, the top ten teams each received 1,000 euros in prize money.
